Project promotes Brazil as an LGBT tourist destination to Spaniards

With the aim of promoting Brazil as an LGBT tourist destination to Spaniards, the NGO Palco in partnership with the Brazilian Tourism Institute (EMbratur) promotes the "iTrae Tus Colores!" project between the 16th and 28th of December.

And, among the most gay-friendly destinations that will invest, are Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and Belo Horizonte.

According to the project's advisors, Brasília will be promoted as civic tourism and also by the LGBT Pride Parade. Belo Horizonte will be shown as a modern city, with options for visits, as well as the Praça da Liberdade Cultural Circuit and the third Brazilian city with the most LGBT establishments.

Rio de Janeiro, which according to the group is the most desired destination by tourists, will be highlighted for its natural beauty, cultural diversity and for being the second largest gay route in the country.

"The initiative is an important step for Brazil to strengthen itself within LGBT tourism and increase its participation in one of the most important travel market segments", states Welton Trindade, Project's coordenador.

SPANISH TOURISM ON THE RISE

According to the World Tourism Organization, the LGBT public represents 10% of travelers and generates 15% of the sector's revenue. Furthermore, while the global tourism market grows at 3,8% per year, the segment grows at 10,3%.

The study carried out by Demanda Turística Internacional and the Ministry of Tourism and Economic Research Foundation, in reference to the year 2012, reports that 25,6% of Spaniards travel to Brazil for leisure reasons, staying 17,9 days per stay and having a average daily spend of US$75,28.
