Queen of Carnival 2011 represents gay samba school

Dancer Luana Campos, 24, elected Queen of the 2011 São Paulo Carnival in the early hours of last Saturday (08), represented the Arco-Íris Samba School, the first LGBT association in the capital of São Paulo.

"The president invited me to represent the school in the competition and I accepted. They [components] are part of my life", commented the winner, who is not homosexual.

For the vice-president of Arco-Íris, Wagner Gaspar, the fact that Luana is heterosexual shows that the school is open to everyone. The association was created to "break taboos" and bring together "all tribes", according to Wagner.

Founded in 2008, the school still parades as a carnival group in the center of São Paulo, but intends to start performing at the Anhembi Sambadrome in 2012.
