Recife gains new support center for LGBTs

The non-governmental organization, Instituto Boa Vista, opened a new support center for the LGBT population in Recife, capital of Pernambuco. Specialized care services will be offered on site by a team made up of lawyers, psychologists, social workers and human rights agents. Assistance and guidance will also be provided for legal referral in cases of crime motivated by LGBTphobia and change of social name for transsexuals. The Institute will strengthen health programs to combat and prevent sexually transmitted infections. “We want to form a network with the Boa Vista Institute to combat the violation of the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals and transgender people”, explains sociologist Acioli Neto, consultant in the area and coordinator of the IBV. The Boa Vista Institute headquarters are located at Rua das Ninfas, 84-A, next to the Metrópole nightclub, from Monday to Friday from 14pm to 20pm. Site visits can be scheduled by calling (81)3072-9799.
