The United Kingdom government took a necessary measure aimed at reducing prejudice towards LGBT people, and determined the definitive ban on the so-called “gay cure” in its territory. Suggesting the practice is now considered a crime. Before making this decision, a survey was carried out with approximately 100 thousand LGBT people, which found a high number of people who had already been subjected to this type of treatment, which is more similar to torture, in search of reversing their sexual orientation. Of those surveyed, 2% admitted to having already resorted to gay healing while 5% admitted to having already received offers. Among those who underwent this type of therapy, more than half stated that the initiative came from religious entities, 19% from health professionals and 16% from family members or other family members. Around 40% of respondents said they had experienced incidents such as verbal attacks or physical violence in the 12 months prior to the survey.
