The singer Ferdinand made the song “Rivera” in honor of Sylvia Rivera (1951–2002), iconic LGBT rights activist.

American and Latino, Sylvia participated in numerous protests and is one of those responsible for the letter “T” gaining more visibility within community discussions.

Sylvia is a co-founder of STAR (Action of Revolutionary Street Transvestites) and was active in the political struggle from the 1960s until the end of her life.
