Robbie Rogers promises to “call out” homophobic countries during the World Cup

Known as the only openly gay player, the American Robbie Rogers declared that he intends to make a big deal out of homophobic countries if he is called up to the United States men's team for the next 2018 World Cup.

The World Cup is scheduled in Russia and the 2022 World Cup will be in Qatar, two countries considered extremely LGBTphobic.

"If I had to go to Russia or Qatar, I would go and I wouldn't change my ways. It would be extremely loud. What I learned from my experience of coming out and being present in the locker room is that this is a stronger speech than a boycott", declared the Los Angeles Galaxy defender to The Mirror.

It is worth remembering that Rogers revealed his homosexuality in 2013, through an open letter published on his blog. And that in January he had criticized the choice of Qatar, where homosexuality is considered a crime, and Russia, where the "anti-gay propaganda" law prohibits any demonstration in favor of LGBT rights, as the venue for the games. "They are in places where, if I had to go, I would possibly be arrested or beaten.

The president of FIFA, Joseph Blatter downplayed the criticism, jokingly saying that gays should "refrain from sexual activities" during the event.
