“Milk” screenwriter writes play in defense of gay marriage in California

Dustin Lance Black, screenwriter and Oscar winner for the film Milk, is now preparing for a new job, but this time on stage. Named "8", the theatrical work portrays the legal battle that has taken place since 2008 in California, when marriage between homosexuals was prevented by "Proposition 8", which considered the union valid only between men and women.

The cast of the play, which will be directed by Joe Mantello, includes big names such as actor Morgan Freeman, Oscar winner for "Golden Girl (2008)", one of the protagonists of "8", as well as Marisa Tomei, who won the golden statuette in 1992 for "My Cousin Vinny", Anthony Edwards, Christine Lahti, Rob Reiner, among others.

The premiere of "8* will be on September 19th, in New York, with all proceeds going to the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
