Sacha Baron Cohen chosen to play Freddie Mercury in the cinema

Sacha Baron Cohen, who has played the intrepid Borat and the very affected Brüno, was chosen to bring Freddie Mercury to life in theaters. Sacha will be the protagonist of the film that will tell the singer's story.

The plot should portray Mercury's success as front of the band Queen until his death, in November 1991, due to AIDS.

Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, members of the band, released the copyright of their songs, so that they can be included in the film's soundtrack. The script is already being written and recording will begin in 2012.

"Freddie Mercury was an inspiring artist. With Sacha in the lead role, the script by Peter (Morgan) and the support of Queen we have the perfect combination to tell the story behind this success", declared producer Graham King to the website "Deadline ".

Graham believes that anyone who is used to seeing Sacha in comedic roles will be surprised by his dramatic potential. "He's very talented, and you see a side of him in Hugo (Martin Scorsese's film opening on November 23 in the US) that you've never seen before. Very emotional and sincere," said King.
