The LGBT market has grown significantly in São Paulo in recent years, to the point of transforming it into one of the most sought after destinations for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people from all over the world.
Nevertheless, the capital of São Paulo is one of the cities nominated for the award for best destination for this social niche at the British LGBT Awards 2017, and competes with the already traditional Amsterdam, Barcelona, Stockholm, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Vancouver; Completing the list are the destinations of Palm Springs and Richmond, tourist spots traditionally frequented by LGBTs in the North American states of California and Virginia.
The list of competitors was released this Monday, the 20th. In addition to best destination for LGBT people, the award, affectionately called the "Gay Oscar", has other categories such as best celebrity. Competing for the award are Lady Gaga, Cara Delevingne, Ellen Page, Laverne Cox, among others.
