Seminar at USP will debate the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities

The life of all human beings is a difficult journey. But some, like LGBT people, have to face more dangerous crossings! Hand in hand, we will all be safer and happier. Let's go?

With this proposal, the Travessias Seminar will take place at USP, on March 31st, starting at 13 pm. With the presence of renowned activists already confirmed, the event aims to debate topics that are current and necessary in the lives of LGBT people. 

From the beginning, with a look at the past, the Seminar will feature the screening of the documentary "Lampião de Esquina", a milestone in the struggle for the rights of this population, followed by a debate with the documentary's director, Lívia Perez, the Brazilian activist dean , João Silvério Trevisan, one of the founders of the Somos group and the Professor. Dr. Marcello Modesto – Department of Linguistics – USP.

Soon after, bringing to the table topics about rights, moderated by cartoonist Laerte Coutinho, psychoanalyst Letícia Lanz and jurist Dimitri Sales talk about the current panorama of laws in our country and the experience of transvestites and transsexuals in our society.

With the microphone open for questions from the audience, seeking interaction with the public, the Seminar will also feature, during the break, the sale of books by writers João Silvério Trevisan and Edith Modesto, as well as the free distribution of the book "A hora e it's the turn of young LGBTs" – Projeto Purpurina – GPH, which will only be given to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transvestite and transsexual people who participate in the event.

To talk about diversity in the classroom, professors from the University of São Paulo, Jacqueline de Moraes Teixeira and Silvana de Souza Nascimento join professor Lula Ramires, moderator of the table, and the teacher who is also a facilitator of the Parents Group of LGBT's, Mércia Falcini, to comment on the difficulties and challenges of having a classroom open to diversity.

And at the last table, ending with the message "Love wins", the teacher, psychoanalyst and founder of GPH – LGBT's Parents Group, Edith Modesto, who is one of the creators of the event, will debate together with the coordinator of Grupo Mães Pela Diversity, Majú Giorgi, the lawyer and activist Ana Marques, the GPH facilitator mother in RJ, Tania Silva and with the young activist Matheus Emílio, about the relationship between families and their LGBT children, and other transversal issues.

The event will have free entry, and will be open to all interested parties (subject to space capacity).
