Sérgio Cabral authorizes police officers and firefighters to participate in the Gay Parade in uniform

The Rio Without Homophobia campaign begins this Tuesday (17). Governor Sérgio Cabral invested R$4 million in the campaign, which will be broadcast on radio, television, posters, billboards, bus doors, street furniture, leaflets, as well as a website and promotional items, such as t-shirts, beach tents and blocks.

The date for the start of the campaign was chosen, as this Tuesday is the International Day to Combat Homophobia. The date was established in 1993 and is joined by 102 countries, including Brazil.

During the launch of the campaign, this Monday (16) in Rio, the governor authorized police officers and firefighters to participate in the Gay Pride Parade in uniform. Professionals were also authorized to use their vehicles at the event.

Also present at the launch were the vice-governor and secretary of Works, Luiz Fernando Pezão, senator Marta Suplicy, the chief secretary of the Civil House, Regis Fichtner, and the secretary of Social Assistance and Human Rights, Rodrigo Neves.

This Tuesday, caravans will leave 27 states heading to Brasília to pressure the National Congress to vote on bill 122, which criminalizes homophobia. The report of The Cape will provide more information about the demonstration throughout the day.
