Series “Skins” gets a North American version with a lesbian character; see trailer

The English series "Skins", which paints a realistic portrait of the current generation, gets a North American version from MTV USA. The production of the new version is the responsibility of the creators of the original product. The premiere is scheduled for the first half of 2011 and ten episodes were produced for the 1st season.

According to the producers, the American version will have some elements from the British plot, however, much of the story has been modified, since, according to research, the majority of young North American audiences are unaware of the series.

The central character of the plot, Tony, remains in the series, but his gay friend, Maxxie, became Tea, a lesbian girl. Still on the difference between the two versions, Bryan Elsley, one of the creators, released a statement highlighting that the stories were "adapted" to the North American reality.

"So, just to be clear: only the beginning of 'Skins USA' will be similar and the series will become quite different from the British one. We are with American writers with American stories. Most young people here (USA) have never heard of 'Skins '" Elsley wrote.
