Spirit Day: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram unite in the fight against homophobia; know everything

This Friday (19th), Spirit Day is held in the United States. The project aims to fight against homophobia and discrimination against young gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals. The idea is for people to use the color purple to support the campaign.

Several large companies joined together to endorse the project, including Coca-Cola, American Airlines and Toyota.

Social networks also assured their support. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, among others, participate in Spirit Day. Tumblr will maintain its purple logo during the day and Facebook will have a purple theme on several of its pages.

The NGO Glaad, creator of the project, encourages people to share the story on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #SpiritDay. Another simple idea is for people to add a purple filter, which can be added to the campaign website, in your profile photos.

The idea for the project emerged in 2010 as a way to combat bullying. In addition to companies, schools, organizations and celebrities also participate. The color purple was chosen because it symbolizes the "Spirit" in the rainbow flag.
