US Supreme Court suspends approval of gay marriage in Utah

The US Supreme Court has suspended the decision of District Judge Robert Shelby, who found the ban on gay marriage in the US state of Utah unconstitutional.

At the time, the magistrate declared that the ban violated citizens' civil liberties. Since then, around a thousand couples have managed to have a wedding ceremony.

However, this week, Judge Sonia Sotomayor granted an emergency request from the State for the Supreme Court to suspend approval of homosexual unions.

Now, gay marriage is on hold until the Denver-based 10th Circuit Court of Appeals decides whether to uphold or overturn Judge Robert Shelby's order.
