Suspects of “gay sex” are arrested and subjected to “forced anal examination” in Zambia

Two Africans from Zambia were subjected to forced anal examination after being reported for having gay sex. Although the practice is strictly prohibited and repudiated by bodies linked to human rights, the Zambian Court found it “necessary” to prove whether, after all, the accused engaged in same-sex relationships or not. The examination is carried out by a healthcare professional who inserts a finger or some other object into the “patient’s” anus in order to determine whether the person has already been introduced into the rear. After a hearing that lasted 90 minutes, the two men were convicted of violating article 155 of the African country's penal code and could face up to 14 years in prison. The accused declared themselves innocent of the accusations, however, their defense lawyers did not move a single straw to help them and did not call any defense witnesses.
