“Maybe Putin is gay”: Madonna talks about Russian president on social media

Madonna decided to take a big dig at Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been approving reactionary measures that go against the freedom of expression of Russia's LGBT community.

So much discrimination in your government could actually be internalized homophobia. Who knows, perhaps Putin is hiding a strong desire for someone of the same sex? That's what Madonna thought when commenting about the Russian president to her fans last night.

"Maybe Putin is gay," the singer wrote on her Twitter profile. The statement came after Madonna received an image for the "Art For Freedom" project.

In the photo, a couple, Adrain and Shane, kiss in front of graffiti showing Soviet leader Michael Gorbachev kissing former East German President Erich Honecker.

This is not the first time that Madonna has spoken out against the Russian government's policies. In 2012, during her show in St. Petersburg, the singer gave a long speech about respect and intolerance.

"The gay community here, and everywhere in the world, deserves the same rights. It deserves to be treated with respect, with tolerance and with love", said Madonna at the time, applauded by countless fans who followed her performance.
