Honestly, seeing the Xicão scene yesterday, I thought: Why???? In my point of view, this subject, with this approach to the soap opera, has already happened.
Okay, someone might say Oh, but your books have violence, they have humiliation of gays, they have beatings, they have domestic violence... Yes, there is barter, but, as a writer, I know how to define who I am at the service of. I don't have to, of course, but I choose a side. If I portray a reality that is sometimes not very rosy, up front I provide a solution that results positively in what we can call the "gay cause". I know who will win.
Now, this news in the middle of a 9am soap opera, from the most watched broadcaster in the country? Show the homophobic character promoting general cleansing, especially murdering the most emblematic gay couple in history? There's no point coming in with the nonsense that you're going to be arrested, etc., etc. Because he had already been arrested. Who cares about an escape and then two more deaths?
I don't know, if this really happens, there is something very rotten behind it.
