American tennis player Matt Dooley comes out as gay

Young tennis player Matt Dooley, just 22 years old, came out as gay last Monday (3). The athlete made the revelation during an interview with the American website "Outsports.com". He plays for the University of Notre Dame, in the state of Indiana, in the United States.

Matt admitted that he had to deal with his own homophobia, as he did not accept himself. The tennis player also revealed that he tried to commit suicide twice, but was stopped by coaches and colleagues.

"Saying you're gay for the first time was extremely difficult and almost embarrassing because you know your life will never be the same," he said. The decision to come out publicly came after American football player Michael Sam did the same in February this year.
