Third edition of Cine Birita will feature an LGBT-themed film

The 3rd edition of Cine Birita will take over the HUNT Bar this Sunday (14). The project, which holds independent film screenings in different bars, will show five short films this time.

One of the highlights of the program is the short film 'French Guiana', directed by Olavo Junior and Edmilson Filho. The film tells the misadventures of Guiana, who works in a cabaret in Fortaleza and dreams of changing her life in France, until a mysterious woman promises to change her destiny.

“Making a film about LGBT people was a reason for a lot of struggle, a lot of work. We didn't have any incentive for this project, we didn't have a nickel of notice or anything like that. Edmilson Filho and I joined forces to make this film anyway. And also to recover the lost humor that many films no longer have. Today there are a lot of romantic comedies based on American films. Our film is that really lame comedy, a bit slapstick. We wanted to use this theme together with the LGBT issue. I'm very happy because the film has had great reviews, so I think it went well. It's always difficult to make films in Brazil, even more so making a film about the LGBT issue, but at the same time it was extremely pleasurable, because it means that all the sweat was worth it, says director Olavo Junior.

The other films that make up the program are:

'Tell my father I'm fine' – Dir. Bruna Fracascio – Tells what happens after Ju, a 9-year-old dyslexic child, leaves home because he believes he is a burden on his father's life. Based on the child's reading of the letter he left behind, the film shows symptoms of dyslexia and how the father himself and other “guardians” deal with them. This film is based on the director's story.

'[REC]ORTES' – Vitor Celso – Lying on the kitchen floor, Walkiria feels her head hurt as she tries to remember what had hurt her. But when searching her memory for the facts of her day, she comes across a broken glass and an intriguing message notification on her cell phone. A knife covered in blood catches his attention. A man's concern now appears in her memories. Wakiria's story emerges in the tension that Rec(ortes) provokes and invites us to dive into this suspense along with her.

'Fragmento' – Dir. Paulinha Spinelli – Discouraged by his work at the hospital and his personal life, an employee helps a woman and her life begins to change.

'Now turn around, my dear' – Dir. Elisa Aleva – The film, based on texts by Lígia Gomes, mother of the director, brings the character's flow of thoughts, which questions the origin of suffering. Pain has always accompanied human beings, and each individual learns to use this term through their previous experiences.

The HUNT Bar opens at 17pm, and films will start showing at 19:30pm. Entry is free.
