Thiago Fragoso is happy with the direction his character took in “Amor à Vida”. In the role of cook Niko, who struggles to have a family even after being left by Eron (Marcelo Antoni), the actor says that the story has contributed to homosexual rights.
According to Fragoso, Niko escapes stereotypes and that is why he won over the public. “I think it's funny that people say that Niko is the girl in the story. I didn't actually build a gay character who dreams of having a family. I built a guy who dreams of having a family and who, by chance, is gay”, said the actor.
“I tried to look for Niko’s fragility, kindness, lyricism, femininity without resorting to labels and caricatures. I think that's why people root for him so much, because it's real. Niko has character, a good heart and is honest with everyone around him”, explained the actor in an interview with O Globo.
Despite the differences between Fragoso's character and the plot's villain, Félix, the actor hopes that “good ends evil” and the two form a couple at the end of the plot.
“I think the metaphor of redemption from evil through approaching good is very beautiful. Niko, who only sees the good in people, insists that Félix is good because he helped him. I think that Niko's belief in Félix's kindness can make him see good things in himself”, said the actor.
“In real life, I don't believe in the redemption of someone who throws their newborn niece into a dumpster, among so many other evil things that Félix did. I’m not as naive as Niko”, highlights Thiago Fragoso, who intends to take a long vacation after the end of the soap opera.
"I've been putting one thing into another for three years. I'm going to travel with my family and a group of friends. Next year there's theater and cinema, but I'm going to give a little time to television", he concluded.
