Transvestite is savagely beaten with sticks in Suzano (SP)

Trans flag

A transvestite was brutally beaten with sticks and cursed on a street in the central region of Suzano, a city in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The information is from Record Agency.

Ana Carolina Leal, 26, told the agency that she was attacked just over a week ago, on Carnival Saturday.

According to reports, she was walking towards a market and, when she passed by two men in front of a pharmacy, she was insulted by them. Ana Carolina reacted by offending them and headed towards the market.

Then, upon leaving the establishment and passing by them again in front of the pharmacy, the men provoked her once again with insults, and the victim reacted with insults for the second time. That's when they beat her – and only stopped when she was close to fainting.

Ana Carolina told Agência Record that no one intervened to stop the attack, although cars and pedestrians were passing by. She suffered serious injuries to her back, arms, legs and head.

The young woman was rescued by a friend and was unable to walk for a week. She received care from friends who bandaged her and gave her medicine to ease the pain.

Ana Carolina said she decided not to go to the hospital because she was undocumented and not to file a police report because she didn't trust the treatment that transvestites receive from the police.

The video below shows the moment Ana Carolina was attacked on the corner of R. Benedito Faria Marques Filho and R. Timóteo Umbriaco. And it's proof that transphobia exists and in addition to excluding, it kills.
