One year after legalization, Taiwan records almost 3 same-sex marriages

The Chinese island of Taiwan registered almost three thousand same-sex marriages since the approval, in May 2019, of the legislation that makes them viable. The information was released by Taiwanese government last weekend.

More specifically, 2.939 unions were made. The cities of New Taipei, Taipei and Kaohsiung registered the most marriages – 614, 484 and 396, respectively.

The government also announced that 2.011 of the couples are women and 928 are men.

Taiwan is the first Asian country to legalize equal marriage.
