Right-wing religious activist Dave Daubenmire, who follows “Coach Dave” online, has made some homophobic and misogynistic comments about lesbians.
Daubenmire, when discussing a trip to Walmart, said she discovered that not everyone is attractive.
“There are a lot of unattractive people in the world,” he said, as if it was the first time he had paid attention to anyone other than himself when he was in public.
Suddenly he had what he thought was a new explanation for why some people are gay: they are too ugly to be straight.
“I look at our sex-starved culture and the nation we live in, and I understand why an unattractive woman might be attracted to a woman who is also unattractive. Because in fact, they both probably can’t find a man to love them.” She added: “You can see that straight people are always the most beautiful in the room and are always with someone, I am an example of that.”
In 1999 the ACLU filed suit against Daubenmire , who was then a high school coach, for leading prayers in a public school locker room.
In 2012, he was fired from a Christian school for being “too extremist.”
He began his webcast and drew attention for his hateful rhetoric, such as saying public school students are being educated by “homosexuals, fornicators, and God-defying enemies.”
In 2014, he failed to get a job as a coach at an Ohio public school because of his years of hateful and pro-aggressive rhetoric.
In his webcast, Daubenmire said that teenage girls who are not ready to have sex with their boyfriends are committing sexual assault.
