The next edition of the Houaiss Dictionary of the Portuguese Language will come with the meaning of the term “family” changed.

The decision to change the definition is to serve as a counterpoint to the Family Status, which defines the word as the relationship between a father, a mother and their children.
Currently in the dictionary the term is defined as a group of people living under the same roof. But stop Andre Lima, partner at the NBS agency, such a definition “is reductionist and anachronistic”.
“The world is diverse, comprehensive and dynamic. The current definition of 'family' It is reductionist and anachronistic. What we want is to update this definition and contribute to the reflection on what are the true ties that unite people in the form of family”, he said.
NBS decided to create the campaign #todosasfamílias asking the audience to suggest definitions for the word. Based on what is suggested, experts will be able to create a definition “without prejudice and limitations”.
This campaign is in partnership with Rio City Hall's Special Coordination for Sexual Diversity and Brazilian Association of Homoaffective Families who are releasing videos showing families formed by homosexuals.
