A third of gays are victims of domestic violence, according to research

Domestic violence is not an issue that only affects and torments heterosexual women. This is what research carried out by the University of Illinois in Chicago shows. Gay men are also victims of this type of violence.

In the study, published in the journal "Urban Health", psychology professor David Mckirnan says that one in three gay men living in a homosexual relationship in Chicago has suffered domestic violence at the same rate as straight women.

Just over 800 men who sought out the Howard Brown health center, specialized in serving the local GLBT population, served as references for the study.

More than 32% of gay men said they had suffered verbal, physical and sexual attacks. However, 20% revealed that they had been physically attacked and sexually violated.
