Osasco councilor says gays are sick and need treatment

The councilor of the city of Osasco, Carlos José Gaspar (PTdoB), referred homophobically to the LGBT community in a plenary session on March 24, Tuesday, when he said that he even respects homosexuals, but that "they are sick people ".

"It's too terrible, it's depressing", said the councilor, who went on to say that "we even respect it, but in reality the feeling is one of pity, because a large part of this situation is illness, they are sick people". The parliamentarian also discussed transvestites and transsexuals when he declared that "these people who are born with one sex and think otherwise need treatment."

Gaspar, not satisfied, went to the president of the house, councilor Oswaldo Vergínio (PR), and asked "how can this be put an end to? One of these days you need to give me a lesson on how to put an end to this", he said. . LGBT activists from the State of São Paulo and the Osasco region are considering filing a lawsuit for breach of parliamentary decorum and bringing the councilor under the anti-homophobia state law 10.948/01.
