Vice President Mourão says criminalization of homophobia is a step beyond necessity

The vice-president, General Mourão, declared last Wednesday (13) that he does not find the discussion on whether or not to criminalize homophobia urgent.

“I don’t think this is (an urgent issue). I think that any crime committed against anyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender, is a crime. This issue of wanting to transform homophobia into a crime like racism is a step beyond the need we have today,” he declared to journalists.
