Homophobia is a crime – and we cannot tolerate it.

A recent episode involving a bar and restaurant in Guarulhos (SP) is an example of this. According to information from the Pheno, the establishment was ordered to pay R$25 to a customer who reported being a victim of homophobia on the part of the establishment's security guards.

The regrettable scene takes place when the professionals asked the customer to button his shirt to comply with the bar's rules. The customer refused – and that was when the security guards attacked him with homophobic insults.

“Nothing would justify the attack and disrespect perpetrated by the representatives of the house who, with the intention of humiliating and diminishing him, used, with an evidently pejorative bias, sensitive elements of his free sexual orientation”, wrote judge Artur Pessôa de Melo Morais, from the 5th Civil Court of Guarulhos.
