Pressure from English-speaking bishops sparks change The controversial debate over the Vatican's groundbreaking openness to gays has taken a new twist. This Thursday, the Church released a new English translation of the report of bishops debating difficult family issues, in the Extraordinary Synod on Family.

The new version significantly changes the section on gays, lessening the welcoming tone of the Italian taste original. The initial report was harshly criticized by many conservative English-speaking bishops – mostly American and African – mainly because of the welcoming of gays.
The original text contained an entire section "Welcoming Homosexuals", which called on the Church to guarantee gays a "fraternal space" and said that their unions constitute "precious support" for partners. The new version is titled "Aid to people homosexuals", speaks only of “communion” and “valuable support.”
O Vatican said the tongue bishops Englishwoman requested the changes.
Os bishops will vote on Saturday on a final document, which will again be submitted for discussion with their dioceses around the world before the synod in October 2015, after which the Pope will define possible reforms and new pastoral guidelines.
