Vrááá! Project that aimed to punish religious satire is archived by Alerj

Wanting to prohibit satire and criticism of religion, bill 540/15, by deputy Fabio Silva (PMDB), was filed on Tuesday (25) by the presidency of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro.

The president of Alerj, Jorge Picciani (PMDB) declared that the project, which provided for a fine of up to R$270 for anyone who satirized or ridiculed religious symbols, was shelved after a contrary opinion from all the technical commissions it passed.

the deputy Carlos Minc questioned the project, claiming that instituting "censorship of satire is prohibited by the Constitution". Minc cited the vote of Minister Carmen Lúcia, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in the action that discussed the prior authorization of biographies. "She said that no law can take away the freedom of opinion that the Constitution guarantees."

To discuss the matter, Marcelo Freixo (Psol) met with comedians Marcelo Adnet and João Vicente de Castro and with representatives of Rede Mobilizadora Meu Rio. He concluded that the "principle of the law is bad", as it "restricts the right of expression in the name of religious control, of opinion, which is very serious." "This has nothing to do with respect for religions, it goes back to a dictatorial period that no one misses. Democracy, society wins."

Fábio Silva declared that he will appeal because the Civil Defense Commission, chaired by Flávio Bolsonaro (PP) did not give its opinion. "The project was archived with reservations. I will appeal to the presidency and the Constitution and Justice Commission asking for this opinion to be taken in plenary."

It is worth remembering that this project was motivated after the actress Viviany Beleboni, who is a transvestite, paraded "crucified" in the 19th LGBT Pride Parade, in São Paulo. Far from satirizing, she protested against the attacks and murders suffered by LGBT people, but many religious deputies classified it as an offense. According to Fabio, there was a demand for a solution so that the same thing did not happen in the State of Rio.
