the acclaimed Yank! – The Musical, produced by Silhueta Produções, announced its long-awaited second season. Winner of four categories at the 17th edition of the CENYM Awards (best musical, cast, song and best poster), in addition to winning two awards at the Broadway World Brazil Awards (best musical direction and best Brazilian version), it is showing at Teatro dos Quatro , at Shopping da Gávea (RJ), with a season until May 2nd and sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 20pm.
The show by North American brothers Joseph and David Zellnik brings to the stage two of the scariest things that can exist: going to war and falling in love for the first time. Its inspiration is in classic films and musical pieces from the 40s, with a difference: it is a love story between two men.
The cast is made up of Leandro Terra, creator and producer of the show, Fernanda Gabriela, guest actress, as well as Hugo Bonemer and Betto Marque, who play, respectively, the protagonists Stu and Mitch, Dennis Pinheiro, Leonam Moraes, André Viéri, Alain Catein , Bruno Ganem, Robson Lima, Conrado Helt, Cilene Guedes and Rhuan Santos.
"Playing a character who lives in a same-sex relationship, for those who are not sick, is natural, as it should be in any love story. The real difficulty lies in experiencing the nuances of a relationship that emerges in the midst of war, an environment of death and constant fear. Homophobia, like all prejudice, is a disease, but love cures it." – Hugo Bonemer (Stu's interpreter).
"What motivates me about this show is discovering, through these characters, the possibility of love in times of hate. I feel that intolerance, hatred and aggression continue to be the driving energies of our bodies. The second war still continues through daily intolerance in our big cities. It seems like we haven't learned anything. I feel like we accept war and know little about love and empathy." – Betto Marque (Mitch's interpreter).
"A few years ago, I started looking for a play that touched on a topic that I think is very important for us to bring up for discussion, for today, for society, which is Homo affectivity. And it was from this research that I, and a good friend, discovered YANK! In addition to being a beautiful story, set during the Second World War, where two American soldiers fall in love, it is also a musical. I combined the useful with the pleasant. This project was a chance to establish a dialogue with every society that lacks representation and that has always wanted to see their dreams and their voice brought to light, in a charming and dignified way. We are in a unique time in world history, in which this issue, the defense of homo affectivity, can be addressed directly as it transcends barriers of nationality or artistic genres, being of interest to the general public. But then I ran into a big problem: getting sponsorship. I've done other independent productions, borrowing money from there, borrowing from myself, but a musical spends a lot on sound, musicians, etc. Since then, I've been trying notices, the Rouanet law, but all without success. Then the idea came to me to do it through crowdfunding. And then the project got underway again. The first season was a success and now we have the second" – Leandro Terra, creator and producer of the show.
