Depois de quase 70 anos, Miss EUA tem primeira candidata bi

Rachel Slawson pode até não ser coroada Miss Estados Unidos – mas já está fazendo história: a veterana de concursos, hoje com 25 anos de idade, tornou-se a primeira mulher abertamente bissexual a figurar entre as candidatas em 68 anos de história do evento.

Slawson vai concorrer à etapa nacional representando o estado de Utah, que, mesmo sendo bastante conservador por ter maioria mórmon, tem figurado com alguma frequência em notícias pró-diversidade.

A bela foi coroada em Utah este mês e utilizou o Instagram para revelar sua sexualidade e as dificuldades que enfrentou, como ter transtorno bipolar e tentar o suicídio com apenas 19 anos. Confira.

Let’s just get straight to the point: The last time I tried to end my life I was 19 years old, and it was the night I lost Miss Utah USA. “Why wasn’t I enough?” This is my 7th pageant, my 5th time competing at Miss Utah USA, and tonight I finally experienced hands down the biggest dream of my life. After a few trips to the psych ward, being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (the reason I had such an extreme reaction to losing a pageant) and finally coming to terms with who I am as a queer woman. And the only difference between tonight, and the night I left broken hearted wishing I wasn’t alive, is that I knew I was enough before I arrived. I am so grateful for this crown. And I promise to do right by Utah and spend this year sharing my truth. But if I’m being honest with you, this crown is a new job, not an answer to the question I spent the last 9 years asking. “Why am I even here?” I am why. Este é o meu 7º concurso, minha 5ª vez competindo na Miss Utah, EUA, e hoje à noite finalmente experimentei o maior sonho da minha vida, depois de algumas viagens à ala psiquiátrica, ser diagnosticada com transtorno bipolar (a razão pela qual tive uma reação tão extrema à perda de um concurso) e finalmente chegar a um acordo sobre quem eu sou como uma mulher queer.
