Chet Faker – Thinking in Textures

Nicholas James Murphy, better known as Chet Faker, is a 24-year-old musician from Melbourne, Australia. After his cover of "No Diggity", a 1990s r&b classic by the group Blackstreet. Chet did a more soulful version with an electronic feel.

"No Diggity" was in collaboration with electronic music producer and DJ "Flume". Harley Sreten, just 21 years old, released his first album, self-titled "Flume" on the Future Classic label, in November 2012. Chet Faker also collaborated with his friend on the track "Left Alone".

With the success of the single, Chet signed with the record label Downtown and released "Thinking in Textures". The EP comes with seven tracks, highlighting "I'm Into You" which received a music video directed by Josh Mckie.

In October he won awards such as "Breakthrough Artist of the Year" and "Best EP" at the Australian Independent Records Awards. In January 2013, it won "Best Independent Album" at the Rolling Stone Australia Awards.

The influences of soul and electronic music come from a very early age. “My parents are divorced, so I grew up with two musical families,” says Chet. "My mother listened to a lot of Motown, and my father listened to sounds from Ibiza and Ministry of Sound. So I think my music is somewhere between those two aspects."

We continue to keep an eye out for new releases.
