Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin, former member of the group Menudo, admitted in a public letter on his blog that he is a “lucky homosexual”.
“It has been a very intense, distressing and painful but also liberating process. I swear that every word you are reading here is born of love, purification, strength, acceptance and letting go. Writing these lines is part of my internal peace and vital in my evolution. Today I ACCEPT MY HOMOSEXUALITY (sic) as a gift that life gives me. I feel blessed to be who I am!” he wrote.
Rumors that Martin was gay emerged in 1999, when he released the hit “Livin' la Vida Loca”. More than 10 years ago, in an interview with “Rolling Stone” magazine, the singer denied that he was homosexual and said that it was all just a “fantasy”.
According to some newspapers, Ricky Martin preferred to admit his sexual orientation after deciding to write his memoirs. In 2008, the star and sex symbol became the father of boys Matteo and Valentino, who were conceived through artificial insemination.
