Rufus Wainwright

The American-Canadian singer, Rufus Wainwright, signed a partnership with the São Paulo GLBT Pride Parade Association (APOGLBT) to promote the series of shows he will perform in Brazil next month. The agreement consists of the inclusion of a banner for the launch tour of their fifth album, “Release The Stars”, on the APOGLBT website.

The singer's press office said that the partnership was due to Rufus' sympathy for gender causes and because he is an artist who has always publicly acknowledged his sexual orientation. And as the show and the parade take place in the same month, the link was immediate.

The treasurer of APOGLBT, Manoel Zanini, states that it was the show's producer who approached the entity showing interest in joining the event. Alexandre Santos, president of the Association, did not expect such an initiative, although Rufus is considered a musical icon in the GLBT community. “We were surprised by Rufus’ interest and happy to be able to count on this artist’s contribution to the São Paulo Parade.”
