“I’ve always been proud to be gay,” says Puerto Rican boxer upon coming out as homosexual

Boxer Orlando Cruz, 31, from Puerto Rico, came out as gay last Wednesday (03). In an official statement, the athlete declared that he was always proud to be homosexual and would no longer like to hide his sexuality.

“I have always been and will continue to be proud to be a gay man. I don't want to hide my identity from anyone else. I want people to see me for my boxing skills, my character and my sporting conduct,” he said.

The boxer also took the opportunity to thank the support of his family, friends and his team of coaches, who supported his decision to come out of the closet.

Orlando Cruz is the current Latin champion of the World Boxing Organization and is preparing to defend the title in his next fight, which will be on the 19th of this month, against Mexican Jorge Pazos.
